"Air and missile attacks will cause civilian casualties in potentially very large numbers.” ~ Sir Richard Barrons, co-author of the UK’s Strategic Defence Review 2025, in an interview in Everyone in the UK must prepare for missile attacks, warns top general (Source: i-Paper, 4th June 2025).
"Britain must prepare for a potential war with Russia within the next five years by building bunkers and strengthening air defences.” ~ Transcribed from an interview with Sir Patrick Sanders in Britain must prepare for war with Russia by 2030, warns ex-Army chief (Source: The Standard, 12th July 2025).
"In the years to come, and by 2030, the main threat to France and Europeans is the risk of open warfare against the heart of Europe. Indeed, in the context of the war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia has stepped up its hostile actions against France and its European partners beyond direct conflict... These increasingly uninhibited destabilisation actions, together with Moscow's absolute priority of strengthening its armed forces, confirm Russia's confrontational approach towards France and its European partners.” ~ Excerpt from France’s National Strategic Review (RNS 2025) (14th July 2025).
While those of us in Britain of a somewhat fallout shelter-orientated mindset appear to be aware that much of continental Europe is currently bunkering down for a
kinetically violent confrontation with Russia in the near future,
as attested to by the salvos of warnings from the
German intelligence services, the general urgency and
alarmist commentary on the continent
(especially in the Baltic states, Poland and
nuclear bunker-obsessed Sweden and Finland) and,
more latterly, the clarion cries of retired British military top brass for
urgent
increases in defence spending, the actual fundamentals of why such warnings are coming thick and fast are not widely known or understood.
Yes, a certain threat is being articulated, but without grasping the geopolitical goals of Russia and the West, it frequently tends to end up being
interpreted either as gaslighting to justify tax hikes (for the enrichment
of the military-industrial complex, don't you know) or as cover for western hegemony and aggression directed at an existentially threatened Russia that is being
increasingly “encircled” by NATO forces.
However, observing the maxim that "the truth is generally seen, rarely heard", we should proceed by declining superficial examinations of the disparate narratives emanating
from the two sides and instead interpret their actions through
the lens of (a) their easy-to-corroborate stated geopolitical ambitions and (b) their own frantic nuclear war preparations (notably the reported
$21 trillion
deep bunkering extravaganza by the US government), and thereby things become much clearer.
The western elites are demonstrably one in terms of social governance and monetary system, arrogantly and somewhat risibly calling themselves "the international community",
so it logically follows that they are not just happy for that to be the case, but desirous to maintain it thus and to expand it.
Conversely, Russia and China are unhappy with that state of affairs and are openly expressive of their counter ambitions; in the case of Russia,
that is often seen in the
Eurasianist writings of Putin’s “muse”,
Alexander Dugin, that call for the “de-Atlanticisation”
of Europe, paralleled in
Chinese efforts at displacing American influence in the Pacific
to make way for their own sphere of influence, albeit China has expressed more strident, global reach
than simply dominating its own backyard, extending (in the case of the now infamous
secret speech of General Chi Haotian
in the early part of this century) even to the occupation a defeated continental United States itself!
"The renaissance of China is in fundamental conflict with the Western strategic interest, and therefore will inevitably be obstructed by the western countries doing everything they can. So, only by breaking the blockade formed by the western countries headed by the United States can China grow and move toward the world!” ~ Quoted from the secret speech of General Chi Haotian.
None of the Russian or Chinese ambitions are new; as J.R. Nyquist reveals on his blog,
Russia has had a longstanding desire to hold Europe as its economic vassal and market for its hydrocarbon products.
The vintage of this Russian objective may be seen, for example, in Boris Yeltsin’s now declassified conversation with President Bill Clinton back
in the 1990s, not long after the “fall” of the USSR (which Putin recently admitted was stage-managed; and for more details on Yeltsin's demands, see our article,
7 Very Special Reasons Why Russia is NOT Your Friend).
Yeltsin, in simple terms, demanded that the US cede its domination over Europe to Russia and it now appears that this goal was a major reason
why the hardline communist establishment in the old Soviet Union agreed to the strategy of
Perestroika (перестройка, i.e., “reform / restructuring”) and
Glasnost (гласность, i.e. “openness / transparency”) in the first place;
the other major reason was that they hoped it would mentally and, eventually literally, lead to the wholesale
disarmament of the West, which substantially occurred, as the present emaciation of the European militaries reveal.
"...communism was never eradicated in Russia. It went underground so that the West would disarm. And now it may be too late for the West to rearm." ~ Hiroshima Again? by J.R. Nyquist, 12th June 2025.
Yet having failed in its first objective and only partially succeeded in its second, Russia’s staged retreat that ended the Cold War had to be discarded
and replaced with a less disingenuous and more openly assertive strategy.
Accordingly, current Russian actions in Europe are (a) remedial with regard to ground lost in the aftermath of the dissolution of the USSR and
(b) preparatory for a decisive near future nuclear war with the West, a West that appears, on the surface at least, to not quite grasp the full
magnitude or nature of the Russian threat:
"The biggest military problem the West faces today, in terms of strategy, is our refusal to acknowledge that Russia is clearly part of a communist bloc of states; that Russia and China are allied; that their goal is to eliminate the free world." ~ From Perestroika to World War III: The Fate of Blind Kittens by J.R. Nyquist, 3rd June 2025.
"China is helping Russia to win the war in Ukraine. Why? Because China is managed by communists who want to destroy the West and its economic dominance. It is in the nature of the Chinese and Russians to make war on the West. It is in their nature to feel envious and resentful toward the West.." ~ Russia Prepares for War Across Europe: Trump Helps Russia, Cuts Support for Ukraine by J.R. Nyquist, 3rd July 2025.
I contend, however, that the West's higher-ups - contrary to Nyquist's inability to see any nefarious connivance on their part - are fully aware of
that and have been playing dumb to cover for Russia for so long that they are now unable or unwilling to
explicitly state the truth about its actual ideological position openly; it is only the general public who take everything at face value and think
that Russia is indeed a genuine post-communist state.
Be that as it may, the hard fact is that Russian planning has moved on from the aspirational and into the affirmative action phase, starting with a lengthy period of
psychological conditioning of its own people for nuclear war with the West (a process I noticed was well underway while I was living in the FSU myself for the five years
leading up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine), as well as revising the narrative about the collapse of the USSR (now
deemed a catastrophe by Putin
who publicly justifies reconstituting it),
annexing Crimea and then invading Ukraine, and latterly in transitioning Russia itself from a peace time
economy to a fully functional war economy entailing
accelerating rates of arms manufacture and weapons development.
On top of all that, the Russians – and Chinese – have been engaged in full-spectrum warfare directed at the West, with Russia in particular
targeting western conservatives with a view to gaining their sympathy, if not winning their loyalty outright, and in this expensive effort they
have been staggeringly successful to the point where most western conservatives now routinely articulate Russian interpretations of the conflict
in Ukraine and brand NATO movements in Europe as “aggressive”.
This has naturally been made all the easier for Russia to achieve due to the undeniably odious rulership and encroaching tyranny of our own
establishment here in the West whose obsessive efforts at subjugating their own people through unwanted mass migration from hostile, culturally
incompatible third world hellholes has led many to envy the patriotic conservativism and strong leadership shown by Putin.
However, Russia is no friend to western conservatives, whom it regards as a special class of “useful idiots” that can be
manipulated to serve Russian goals, as seen by their de facto leader’s attitude to Ukraine’s stand against the Russian invasion.
Donald Trump, at least as far as his current attitude to helping Ukraine goes, has the approval of both Russia and all the impressionable
conservatives that have been beguiled by Russian manipulation.
But Trump is a twoedged sword insofar as he is not merely malleable in Russian hands, but far more so in the hands of the very sophisticated
and nefarious western establishment that is every bit as hungry for a globally destructive and highly genocidal nuclear war as Russia and China are,
except that the western elites want it so that they can “build back better” with a dystopian hellscape modelled on the World Economic Forum’s
grandiose “Great Reset”.
And so all of Trump’s major actions are, like Russia’s and China’s, to be interpreted as war-orientated.
His annexation fixation on Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal are not about resources – that’s the cover story, albeit one with more than a
grain of truth to it – but principally about pre-positioning forces for the more pressing matter of the coming nuclear war with Russia and China.
Likewise, Trump’s erratic and otherwise baffling tariff-spree is not about securing prosperity for the common American, but about building a
firewall around the western hemisphere to exclude Chinese incursive actions and to repatriate critical industries and technologies in advance
of a full-on engagement with the East.
Finally, Trump’s ostensible abandonment of Ukraine, though a superficial victory for Russia, is really part of a broader strategy of shock
therapy for the Europeans.
Not the European elites, mind you, as they are of one mind with their American counterparts, but the ordinary people,
so that a narrative can be built in Europe for mass rearmament, conscription, war-preparation austerity, etc., as the US cannot fight a two front
war alone; the arrangement appears to be that America will make China its top priority in the coming nuclear war and Europe will be assigned the task of
fighting Russia, at least up to the point at which the conflict becomes atomic.
Whether Trump is fully on-board with the entirety of the strategy is unimportant; the man exercises only limited autonomy being so manipulable
and beholden to those who can coerce him through blackmail or steer him through flattery.
Rather, the key point is that Trump is delivering more for the western establishment in its pre-war preparations than he is for Russia,
despite Russian intrigues directed at western conservativism.
To conclude, there is no diplomatic way out of the present world malaise.
All belligerents are headed for an impasse of mutually exclusive
geopolitical interests and accordingly, the ultimate zero sum game is in play.
That is the reason why America, Russia and China (as well as many others) are all engaged in building deep bunkers for their high officials.
Russia and China have both transitioned to war economies, and France and Germany are leading the way in Europe in doing the same.
At the same time, the narrative is being built for the UK to follow suit under the Strategic Defence Review 2025’s “defence dividend”, a sanitised term
coined by PM Keir Starmer in his introduction to that document.
This juggernaut not only has momentum, but is gaining speed!
Meanwhile, retired and active generals are warning Brits that a nuclear barrage is coming and that we ought to be thinking about bunkering
down to survive it.
However, the government will make no contribution to that because it is too expensive and, frankly, too late to do it on a national scale anyway.
And the fact that the narrative-builders have been increasingly explicit in communicating the point that in the UK it will have to be “every
man for himself”, it plainly falls to each of us individually to take matters into our own hands and start digging down, while there is still
time to do so.
We are on the cusp of an exponential build-up to nuclear war; that is our window.
If you are sensible enough to take this threat seriously and are not inclined to fatalist apathy or delusional notions about the government
stepping in to properly take care of its people, we would urge you to start thinking about your loved ones and how best to prepare to maximise
the chances of their survival of what will be the most devastating event in human history and probable severe lawlessness and scarcity in its aftermath. We offer, on a discretionary basis, a few services
that might help, ranging from in-person paid consultations to the design and project management of the construction of bespoke fallout shelters, such as the
"hexabunker" featured below.
